A.P. Moller – Maersk will introduce a new digital process for import container release at the German seaports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Wilhelmshaven, replacing the current PIN-based system.

Effective October 1, 2025, the new “secure release order” system will be mandatory at Hamburg and Bremerhaven in line with legal requirements. It allows only one traceable party at a time to collect full import containers, enhancing supply chain security.

Maersk will adopt the “German Ports” digital platform, already used by terminal operators, to manage the release authorisation process. Customers and vendors must register on the platform to receive pick-up rights, as traditional PIN codes will no longer be issued.

Maersk is urging all parties involved to register early and prepare for the transition to avoid disruptions.
