Maersk opens logistics centre in Barcelona

Maersk has launched a newly built logistics centre of 8,168 m2 in Barcelona to provide services to the Iberian Peninsula and the South of France.

With an 11-meter-high storage area, Maersk’s new facility is projected to allow higher capacity density. It also disposes of 39 loading docks, enabling transfer operations in Barcelona.

In addition, the building is certified under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard with Gold category, including self-sufficient energy generating solar panels and electric vehicle chargers.

“Our goal is change logistics from being an art of problem-solving into a science of opportunity-seeking, increasing the offer of comprehensive solutions for our customers and making them available for all types of companies, regardless of their size or industrial sector,” commented Diego Perdones, managing director for Southwest Europe and Maghreb at Maersk.

Furthermore, he said that the company’s focus is mainly on the deconsolidation of imported goods for their subsequent distribution both in Spain and Portugal, as well as the South of France.

“This facility is equipped with the most modern technology for logistics activity, a key aspect in the global supply chain that is increasingly focused on the flow and visibility of information behind the movement of goods,” added Perdones.

Maersk’s new facility for Southern West Europe is part of CILSA’s new building projects within the ZAL Port of 350,000 m2, 14,409 m2 of which lies within the port of Barcelona, as well as an industrial area of 920,000 m2 that will be part of a Logistics Park, designed for storage, management distribution and transportation of cargo.
