Maersk has announced the implementation of a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for dry container shipments from several countries in Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean to the United States.
The surcharge will apply to cargo originating from Bulgaria, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Lebanon, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine, with an effective date of 16 April 2026.
According to the company, the PSS will be set at USD 500 per container for both 20-foot and 40-foot dry containers, including 45-foot high-cube units.
The surcharge will apply on a per-container basis and will be collected in line with freight-paid terms.
Maersk noted that the PSS applies only to non-spot bookings. The applicable rate will be determined based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD).
For non-FMC regulated shipments, the PCD refers to the scheduled departure date of the first ocean leg at the time of booking confirmation. For FMC-regulated shipments, the PCD corresponds to the last container gate-in date.
The company clarified that the Peak Season Surcharge will not apply to spot bookings.
Maersk added that the surcharge remains subject to applicable regulatory requirements, including those under the US Shipping Act and other relevant regulations. Additional local and contingency charges may also apply depending on the shipment.
Customers can refer to Maersk’s tariff lookup platform for the latest rate structures and applicable surcharges.
