Maersk inaugurates new Belcon Cold Store in Cape Town

Maersk has officially inaugurated its Belcon Cold Store facility in Cape Town, marking a major milestone in the company’s more than USD 100 million investment to strengthen South Africa’s cold chain infrastructure. The opening reinforces Maersk’s long-term commitment to supporting the nation’s economy and enhancing value creation for local businesses and communities.

The new facility is part of Maersk’s strategy to expand and modernize South Africa’s cold chain logistics network, which plays a vital role in the country’s perishable exports sector. Fresh fruit, particularly citrus and table grapes, represents a key component of South Africa’s agricultural exports, requiring efficient temperature-controlled supply chains to maintain quality and competitiveness in global markets.

“Maersk has been invested and present in South Africa for over three decades, and our ambition has never been stronger,” said Lubabalo Mtya, Managing Director of Maersk Southern Africa & Islands. “We are committed to building and delivering logistics solutions that create tangible value for our customers and their businesses, while contributing to South Africa’s economic prosperity and the livelihoods of its people.”

The Belcon Cold Store facility will play a central role in improving efficiency, reliability, and connectivity across South Africa’s cold chain logistics ecosystem, further positioning the country as a leading hub for perishable exports.
