Maersk enhances UAE-India-Oman service with additional port call

Maersk has announced an addition of a new call at Sohar port in Oman to its ocean shipping service Shaheen Express from 3 July 2023.

The Shaheen Express will rotate between Jebel Ali (UAE), Mundra (India), Pipavav (India), Jebel Ali, and Sohar (Oman), creating a service for the India-UAE-Oman corridor. Maersk is expected to use two 2,800 TEU container vessels in the service.

According to the Danish ocean carrier, the direct service to Oman is going to improve transit time for some of the inbound corridors, such as from Port Qasim (Pakistan), Port Said (Egypt), Sokhna Port (Egypt), Kolkata Port (India), Jawaharlal Nehru Port (India) and some European ports. Similarly, by directly calling Mundra and Pipavav in India, it would help the chemical and industrial exporters from Oman, according to a statement.

“Oman is an extremely important market for us. We believe and are fully committed to participating in this market’s growth story. In recent times, we have seen an increased demand from our customers,” Christopher Cook, Maersk managing director in UAE, Oman and Qatar.
