Maersk Eindhoven and ONE Apus ready for operations

Both the Maersk Eindhoven and the ONE Apus which suffered major cargo losses in the Pacific are expected to resume service, with the Eindhoven becoming operational earlier than originally expected.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]Maersk reported today that the Eindhoven has a “tentative sailing date to Los Angeles” which is expected to be 2 or 3 March, but which is still subject to change. Cargo handling operations had been expected to finish on 5 March, but the work has been completed quicker than had been originally estimated.

“All vessel repairs are completed, and the voyage is approved for sailing. We expect more clarity on the sailing date and time tomorrow morning (Eastern Standard time),” said a Maersk statement. Maersk Eindhoven had diverted to APM Terminals in Yokohama, Japan, for repairs and to discharge damaged containers. The vessel could arrive in the US by the middle of March, but with congestion at the port, it is expected to face delays before berthing.

The Maersk Eindhoven could be set to depart the Port of Yokohama after discharging damaged containers and completing repairs early.

Maersk Eindhoven lost 260 boxes on 17 February in a Pacific storm, just a month after a similar vessel, the Maersk Essen lost 760 containers also in the Pacific heading east to the US.

Meanwhile, ONE sources have suggested the ONE Apus, which lost 1,816 containers in late November while, like the Maersk vessels, heading for the US from China is also likely to leave Kobe where it had discharged damaged containers and affected repairs to the vessel.

Official confirmation of the sailing date and time have yet to be released, but the vessel is expected to leave Kobe for Los Angeles in mid-March, arriving in the US by the end of the month, with no official confirmation and taking into account the congestion in Southern California the precise date and time of arrival may vary.
