Maersk, CMA CGM suspend Rio de Janeiro port call on joint service

Maersk and CMA CGM have notified their customers about upcoming adjustments to their joint Bossa Nova/SIRIUS service connecting the Mediterranean with the East Coast of South America.

Effective from 14 March, there will be a suspension of calls at Rio de Janeiro port (Southbound) until July with the exact date pending confirmation.

CMA CGM said this measure aims to enhance service reliability, significantly impacted by operational constraints and heavy congestion in Brazilian ports. These challenges stem from the repairs underway at Santos BTP Pier 1 following an incident that rendered the pier inactive, as well as ongoing public works at Navegantes.

“The operational challenges are expected to last at least through Q2 2024,” noted Maersk in a statement.

The revised port rotation will be Algeciras (Spain), Tanger (Morocco), Salvador (Brazil), Santos (Brazil), Paranagua (Brazil), Itapoa (Brazil), Paranagua (Brazil), Santos (Brazil), Itaguai (Brazil), Tanger (Morocco), and Algeciras (Spain).
