Maersk and Vestas sign mega container cargo deal

A.P. Moller – Maersk has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with the energy solutions provider Vestas for all containerised transport.

According to the agreement between Vestas and Maersk, the first one gets direct access to container capacity at a fixed price. This would otherwise be hard to secure in the current environment and thus, it will help ensure business continuity and cost predictability, according to the announcement.

The partnership, which will be effective from 1 January 2022, includes door-to-door transport from the Vestas’ suppliers to their factories and service warehouses, as well as containerised site parts and transport equipment.

In addition, the deal includes all airfreight shipments but does not cover non-containerised road and outbound transport, while this sector of transport will continue to be managed by DSV and other Vestas’ partners.

“By partnering with Maersk, we can further accelerate the deployment of wind energy and protect profitability, while working together on developing solution that can make our supply chain more sustainable,” stated Tommy Rahbek Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer of wind turbine manufacturer Vestas.

Furthermore, Vincent Clerc, Executive Vice President and CEO Ocean and Logistics at A.P. Moller – Maersk, said, “We will work hard to provide fast, resilient and dynamic supply chain solutions to Vestas as a modern end-to-end logistics company with fully controlled assets while empowering them and turning complications into opportunities.”

The partnership entails an opportunity to co-develop a joint sustainability journey, where the two firms can join forces to decarbonise logistics, according to a statement.
