Maersk adjusts New Zealand holiday season operations

Maersk has announced operational changes across New Zealand during the 2025–2026 Christmas and holiday period. Both port terminals and container depots will run with amended receival and delivery hours. Customers are advised to monitor notices directly from each port or depot, as updates may occur.

Rail Network Closures

KiwiRail has confirmed line closures impacting freight between Hamilton and Auckland from 27 December 2025 to 18 January 2026. A temporary road-bridging plan will ensure service continuity, with dry containers routed between Hamilton and Auckland Metroport, and reefer containers between Tauranga and Auckland Metroport.

A concurrent full closure between Wellington and Palmerston North will take place from 27 December 2025 to 5 January 2026, followed by a partial daytime block from 6 to 11 January, during which freight will move at night only.

CEDO Submission

Shippers are encouraged to submit Customs Export Delivery Orders (CEDOs) in advance, taking into account revised operating hours.

Extended Free Time

Maersk will extend demurrage and detention free time where Public Holidays fall within a customer’s agreed free time period.
