MacGregor unveils free digital Carbon Calculator for its Cargo Boost solution

Cargotec’s subsidiary MacGregor has introduced a new free digital Carbon Calculator designed to help container shipping companies estimate the potential reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from upgrading their onboard container cargo systems with MacGregor Cargo Boost.

By optimizing container capacity on existing ships, the Cargo Boost solution has demonstrated the ability to increase average cargo system utilization from traditional rates of 80% to as high as 90% or even 100%, according to the company’s announcement.

The MacGregor Carbon Calculator provides vessel owners with a simple, no-cost tool to estimate the emissions reduction potential of Cargo Boost in advance. The calculator enables users to input details about the vessel, the current container cargo system, any changes implemented with Cargo Boost, and the operational specifics of a voyage. With full transparency, it estimates the effects of the upgrade in terms of percentage CO2 reduction per TEU, potential savings in Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) payments, fuel cost reductions in US dollars per TEU, and additional revenue in USD.

“Maximising cargo intake will always be one of the key drivers of container ship efficiency. Doing so not only increases vessel earnings but also cuts fuel consumption per cargo tonnage carried, thereby minimising greenhouse gas emissions and associated emissions taxes such as ETS payments,” stated Magnus Sjöberg, Senior Vice President of the Equipment Solutions Division at MacGregor.
