LX Pantos has initiated a major marine conservation effort by launching the Ocean Forest Project, an underwater reforestation program aimed at restoring marine ecosystems as part of the company’s broader climate action strategy.
On May 16, LX Pantos signed a five-party Memorandum of Understanding with Chungcheongnam-do Province, Taean County, ChildFund Korea, and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency. The agreement was formalized at the Gaemok Port Fishermen’s Welfare Center in Taean.
Through this partnership, the stakeholders will collaborate on the Ocean Forest Project, which involves transplanting over 10,000 eelgrass seedlings annually in the coastal waters of Uihang-ri, Taean County, through 2028.
The goal is to establish a thriving underwater forest. Under the MOU, Chungcheongnam-do and Taean County will provide administrative and logistical support, while ChildFund Korea and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency will contribute technical expertise for implementation and ongoing maintenance.
Following the MOU signing, over 30 LX Pantos employees took part in a volunteer effort to jumpstart the initiative.
The team created and transplanted 1,000 eelgrass shoots using eco-friendly clay ceramics and traditional Korean hanji paper, and also conducted a coastal cleanup, removing marine debris from the surrounding shoreline.
An LX Pantos representative commented that this project reflects our commitment to corporate social responsibility and the preservation of sustainable marine ecosystems.
