Lufthansa Cargo is strengthening its short- and medium-haul freighter network with the addition of new destinations in Europe and Africa.
From 7 February 2026, Rome-Fiumicino will join the regular A321 freighter schedule. The new service will operate once a week from Frankfurt on Saturdays under flight number LH8344, continuing from Rome to Istanbul and Munich. The inclusion of Rome follows strong demand, as the airport has been served by A321 freighters on an ad hoc basis since December 2025.
The move reinforces Rome’s role as Lufthansa Cargo’s newest hub in Southern Europe. From the Italian capital, customers gain access to more than 120 destinations through a combination of freighter services, road feeder connections, and additional cargo capacity provided by ITA Airways.
Lufthansa Cargo is also expanding its A321 freighter network into Africa. From 10 February 2026, Algiers will be added to the schedule with a weekly service every Tuesday under flight number LH8308. The new route increases the airline’s direct freighter connections to seven destinations in the Middle East and Africa, alongside Beirut, Casablanca, Cairo, Yerevan, Tel Aviv, and Tunis.
The airline said the expansion enhances connectivity and flexibility for customers across its European and regional markets, allowing faster and more reliable logistics solutions.
Lufthansa Cargo’s short- and medium-haul network now covers 22 destinations, operated by a fleet of four A321 freighters. The network is supported by 18 Boeing 777 freighters on long-haul routes and additional belly cargo capacity from partner airlines within the Lufthansa Group.
The carrier’s hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Brussels, and Rome form the backbone of its global network, which now spans around 350 destinations in 100 countries.
