Los Angeles port sees US$30 million seizure of counterfeit products

The US Customs and Borders Protection (CBP) intercepted a shipment from China with counterfeit products worth US$30 million at the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. In close coordination with federal authorities, the VBP officers seized 13,586 items.

The items included handbags, shirts, backpacks, cross-body bags, and pants with the fake tags of world-leading designer and clothing brands, such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and YSL among others.

If these items were genuine, they would have been US$30 million in value, according to CBP officers, who released the report to make people aware of the rush of fake products in the market amid the festive season and global bottleneck.

As per CBP, these products break the market through the channel of underground markets and illicit websites. The easy-to-use and master e-commerce add an edge to the criminal’s side. They find it easy to list their fake products on well-known shopping websites which make them appear legitimate and bewilder common masses and involve in thuggery.

Donald Kusser, Port Director of Los Angeles/ Long Beach Seaport, mentioned the lucrative deals that these criminals throw out through e-commerce and trap thousands of consumers with their fancy obsession with these world-leading apparel brands.

CBP has been constantly striving to keep pirated and counterfeit products out of the US supply chain, markets and streets. In 2020, the CBP officers seized 26,503 shipments with counterfeit goods across the country valuing over US$1.2 billion.
