Lloyd’s Register (LR) has named Ngozi Gwam as its new Business Director and Senior Representative for Africa. The move strengthens LR’s focus on the continent’s growing maritime and energy sectors.
Gwam will lead LR’s strategy in Africa. He will work directly with clients and partners to deliver tailored solutions. He’ll also drive growth and expand LR’s presence across the region.
He has led LR’s business development in Sub-Saharan Africa since 2018. During that time, he helped build operations in Nigeria, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Angola, and Mozambique.
Gwam also launched LR’s Chevening Scholarship programme across Africa in 2020. The initiative supports postgraduate studies in the UK for future maritime and energy professionals. He also works with the Ocean Centres in Africa, backed by Lloyd’s Register Foundation and the UN Global Compact.
“It’s an honour to step into this role,” said Gwam. “I aim to grow our impact in Africa’s Blue Economy and keep LR as a trusted partner in the region.”
Andrew McKeran, LR’s Chief Commercial Officer, welcomed the appointment. “Ngozi brings leadership, experience, and strong relationships. He will help us connect better with clients and grow our business in Africa.”
Gwam joined LR in 2013 as a Project Manager in Aberdeen. He later worked in Nigeria and Northern Europe on projects like ballast water treatment.
Before LR, he held roles at Schlumberger and Speedcast. He holds an MBA from IE Business School, a Master’s in Wireless Networks from Queen Mary University of London, and a Bachelor’s in Applied Physics from the University of Lagos.
