Liebherr Container Cranes announced the delivery of four electric rubber tyre gantry cranes (ERTGs) to customers in Italy.
One ERTG has been handed over to Salerno Container Terminal (SCT), operated by the Gallozzi Group, while three have been delivered to Consorzio Napoletano Terminal Containers, Naples (Conateco), a subsidiary of MSC.
These cranes are expected to significantly contribute to the economies of Southern Italy and beyond. The ERTG supplied to SCT is designed to handle container stacks ten wide and 6 high, making it one of the largest RTGs provided by Liebherr.
Similar to the three ERTGs supplied to Naples, these machines feature a hybrid powertrain, capable of operating on both diesel and electricity through cable reeling drums. This enables emission-free container handling when connected to the grid and delivers substantial energy savings through onboard power regeneration.
Liebherr has established a strong presence in Italy through its trusted partner, Macport, which has been a key supplier of Liebherr maritime cranes in Italy, Bulgaria, and Albania. Macport plays a pivotal role in both the sales and service of Liebherr maritime cranes within these regions.
The delivery of the ERTG to SCT marks the latest addition of Liebherr machinery to the terminal, joining four Liebherr Harbour Mobile cranes configured for container handling and six Liebherr reach stackers already operational at the port. Conateco is embarking on its journey with Liebherr, anticipating the benefits of owning Liebherr machines, including quality, performance, and reliability, along with the assurance of access to experienced Liebherr technicians and engineers.
Also, the introduction of the new Liebherr RTGs is expected to streamline operations, enhance cargo handling capacity, and foster economic growth in the local hinterland. As ports embrace cutting-edge technology, they continue to serve as vital components of Italy’s trade infrastructure.
