Liberian Registry names Kyle Hurst as SVP

The Liberian Registry has appointed Kyle Hurst as Senior Vice President of Fleet Communications and Technology.

Hurst brings more than 30 years of maritime experience in vessel and satellite communications. In his new role, he will oversee fleet satellite systems, GMDSS, and other communication technologies. He will also work closely with Registry leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and develop future-ready communication systems.

“This is an exciting time for the maritime industry,” Hurst said. “With challenges in safety, security, S-100, and autonomous vessels, I’m proud to join the world’s largest ship registry.”

Before joining the Liberian Registry, Hurst spent 10 years at Iridium, where he helped build its maritime strategy and led the global rollout of Iridium GMDSS, ending a 30-year monopoly and strengthening maritime safety.

Earlier, he worked at Inmarsat, where he helped introduce FleetBroadband, bringing IP connectivity to global shipping. He also has experience in fisheries management, marine enforcement, and military service.

“Kyle’s appointment reflects our commitment to top-tier talent,” said Alfonso Castillero, CEO of the Liberian Registry. “His industry leadership and vision will strengthen our fleet communications and safety worldwide.”
