KUBO is taking a groundbreaking step in sustainable greenhouse construction through a new partnership with Underground Forest an organization that specializes in the use of wooden foundation piles that also serve as a method of long-term CO₂ storage.
The collaboration will launch with a pilot project at the ACRES vegetable nursery in ’s-Gravenzande, which will serve as the first implementation of this innovative foundation system.
The pilot aims to pave the way for broader adoption across greenhouse projects throughout the Netherlands.
The foundation piles are made from wood harvested from sustainably managed forests and are installed below the groundwater level, where they permanently lock in previously absorbed CO₂.
For each ton of CO₂ stored, one tradable carbon credit is issued.
The only requirement from the landowner is a one-time transfer of credit rights, after which there are no additional costs or obligations.
KUBO facilitates the adoption of this method by guiding customers through implementation and working directly with Underground Forest. This makes it easy for greenhouse developers to select a sustainable, low-impact foundation solution that not only supports their environmental goals but also delivers financial returns through the carbon credit market.
This initiative aligns with KUBO’s wider mission to accelerate the sustainability transformation within the greenhouse construction sector.
