
LEE Jungkun, General Manager of the Convention & Legislation Service Team at Korean Register (KR), has been elected as the next Chair of the IACS Safety Panel.
His three-year term will begin on January 1, 2026, and run through December 31, 2028. The announcement was made during the 91st IACS Council Meeting held in Beijing, China.
The Safety Panel is one of seven technical bodies within the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). It plays a key role in shaping and interpreting global maritime safety regulations. The panel also works closely with the IMO, the European Union, and other key regulators.
LEE brings a strong background in maritime safety. He graduated from Korea Maritime & Ocean University and joined KR in 2000. Since 2016, he has represented KR on the IACS Safety Panel.
He is well-known for his deep knowledge of SOLAS and other major international conventions. Over the years, LEE has actively contributed to IACS and IMO technical discussions.
His election reflects broad support from all 12 IACS member societies and highlights his leadership and credibility in the global maritime community.
