KR signs MoU with HD Hyundai Global Service

KR (Korean Register) and HD Hyundai Global Service formalized their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), at the Kormarine 2023 evente in Busan, South Korea.

The purpose of this agreement is to jointly assess and validate solutions aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the maritime industry. With the gradual strengthening of decarbonization regulations, shipping companies are increasingly embracing digital technology to enhance their carbon emission reduction efforts.

The signing of the MoU signifies a proactive response to these evolving regulations and a commitment to working closely together on the advancement of “shipping and maritime big data and artificial intelligence (AI) technology.”

This involves the convergence of digital technology and carbon-neutral solutions to address the challenges presented by a changing regulatory landscape.

This arrangement will enable HD Hyundai Global Service to create an AI-powered carbon emissions monitoring system. They aim to develop forecasting and management solutions with the provision of application programming interfaces (APIs), as well as scenarios related to data both before and after implementing carbon reduction measures.

Meanwhile, KR’s role will involve assessing the precision of HD Hyundai Global Service’s newest solution, ‘OceanWise,’ and establishing impartial criteria to gauge the efficacy of carbon reduction solutions.

LEE Kidong, CEO of HD Hyundai Global Service said, “We are glad to be able to officially prove the value of our solution with the cooperation of KR. Our carbon footprint monitoring system will meet the various industry demands regarding carbon emission management and it will be a very useful tool for exploring new business opportunities.”
