KPI OceanConnect delivers biofuel blend to OOCL vessel

KPI OceanConnect, a global provider of marine energy solutions, announced the successful sale and supply of a B24 biofuel blend to COSCO-owned ocean carrier Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL).

The fuel delivery was coordinated by KPI OceanConnect’s team in Singapore and the fuel was delivered by barge to OOCL’s boxship while it was docked in Singapore. The fuel delivered was a blend of Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester (UCOME) and Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO).

According to a statement, KPI OceanConnect’s local team collaborated closely with OOCL to discover a biofuel that would fit their specific requirements, and by linking supply and demand for green fuels, KPI OceanConnect hopes to contribute to the continuing development of biofuel supply in Singapore.

“We are proud to have worked so closely with members of the OOCL team to develop a tailor-made fuel strategy that met the company’s sustainability and regulatory goals,” said Jesper Sørensen, global head of New Fuels and Carbon Markets at KPI OceanConnect.

Additionally, the KPI OceanConnect team oversaw the blending process to verify that the fuel matched exact standards and was on hand for the delivery to guarantee that the specifically blended product delivered was of high quality.

“We are pleased to announce that OOCL has been able to use green biofuel in our fleet. Using biofuel is one of our strategies to advance further with the transition towards decarbonization and to achieve the decarbonization target of the company,” stated Michael Xu, director of Trades at OOCL.
