Kongsberg Maritime to supply propulsion system for Colombian Navy

Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract with Damen Naval to provide twin Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP) and shaftlines for the Colombian Navy’s upcoming frigate, part of the Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) program aimed at modernizing Colombia’s naval fleet.

The new frigate, based on Damen’s modular SIGMA design, will be constructed by COTECMAR and Damen Naval starting at the end of 2025, with commissioning expected between late 2029 and early 2030. The SIGMA platform is known for its adaptability and is already in service with navies in Mexico and Indonesia.

Kongsberg Maritime’s propulsion systems are engineered to support long-range missions while minimizing underwater noise, enhancing operational effectiveness. This contract follows a recent collaboration with Damen Naval to supply CPP systems for anti-submarine warfare frigates destined for the Royal Netherlands and Belgian navies.
