Kongsberg maritime launches electric towing winch for tug market

Kongsberg Maritime has introduced a new electric towing winch, expanding its product line to better meet the needs of the tugboat sector.

Powered by a frequency converter-driven electric motor, the winch offers improved energy efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint compared to conventional hydraulic systems.

Engineered specifically for harbor tug operations, the winch delivers a pulling force of up to 35 tons and includes brake holding loads adapted to specific towing ropes.

Its frequency converter technology allows for stepless speed control during rope handling, and the system is available in various drum configurations—single, double, and split.

Key features include a mechanical spooling device for wire rope applications and a rapid quick-release mechanism activating in under three seconds in compliance with IACS regulations.

Designed with future-readiness in mind, the winch supports remote service capabilities and integration with the broader Kongsberg Maritime ecosystem. It is backed by the company’s global service network to ensure ongoing reliability and support.
