Kongsberg Discovery and MacArtney Underwater Technology have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership will integrate all Kongsberg Discovery systems onto MacArtney’s remotely operated towed vehicle (ROTV) platforms. This creates a turnkey solution for defence, energy, and ocean science applications worldwide.

Combining Expertise

The MoU was signed at Kongsberg Discovery’s facility in Horten, Norway. Both companies described it as a “natural partnership.”

Kongsberg Discovery is a leader in high-performance underwater positioning and navigation, multibeam and scientific echosounders, and synthetic aperture sonars. Its systems are widely used in high-end survey work.

MacArtney specializes in towing platforms, cables, and subsea communication systems. Its Focus series platforms are known for hydrodynamic stability, payload flexibility, and the ability to operate multiple instruments at different depths and speeds.

Transformational Benefits

Helge Uhlen, VP of OT Sales at Kongsberg Discovery, said, “This partnership allows us to deliver complete solutions to our customers. By integrating our sonars, positioning, and navigation systems with MacArtney’s platforms, we offer unmatched technology and flexibility.”

Applications include seafloor mapping, pipeline and cable inspection, wide-area search tasks, mine-countermeasures, and more. The system can operate in shallow coastal areas or at depths up to 1,000 metres, depending on the platform.

Meeting Market Demand

Bjarke T. Ovesen, Sales Director – Naval at MacArtney, described the collaboration as a natural extension of a long-standing relationship.

He added, “Integrating Kongsberg Discovery’s advanced sonars into our platforms gives our customers precision, reliability, and the tools they need to succeed.”
