Konecranes is nearing the completion of a long-term contract with the US Navy, initiated in 2017, to deliver four portal jib cranes to naval facilities in Washington State.
Two 25-ton, self-powered jib cranes were delivered to the Navy pier at Bangor, Maine, in the first quarter of 2024, with the remaining two scheduled for delivery to Bremerton, Kitsap County, by June 2025.https://container-news.com/telia-lithuania-first-standalone-5g-network-klaipeda-port.
These machines are intended to enhance equipment handling operations at both bases.
At Bangor, they have replaced aging systems, offering improved safety and reliability. The units bound for Bremerton will expand the Navy’s existing crane fleet, supporting increased operational demands. All four cranes were manufactured at Konecranes’ facility in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Steven Waisanen, Vice President of Nuclear Equipment & Services at Konecranes, said that with the final two cranes entering the inspection and testing phase, they are all focused on completing this project to the highest standards.
The cranes are self-powered and designed for transport via Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs), allowing transfer from barge to land and between installation sites.
Engineered to meet stringent Navy operational and safety requirements, the cranes will be fully integrated into pier-side operations and are built for high-duty cycles, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
