Klaipėdos Smeltė Container Terminal completes TOS upgrade

In early November, Klaipėdos Smeltė Container Terminal successfully transitioned its Terminal Operating System (TOS) from TOPS Advance to the more advanced TOPS Expert.

This migration, supported on-site by consultants from Realtime Business Solutions (RBS) and RBS EMEA, was executed seamlessly. Remarkably, the entire upgrade was completed within just four hours, without any disruption to terminal operations, customers, or stakeholders.

The upgrade represents a key milestone in Klaipėdos Smeltė’s commitment to continuous improvement. The enhanced TOS offers advanced functionalities for vessel operations, yard management, equipment control, and data analytics.

“The Klaipėda Smeltė terminal is a long-term customer, and we are happy to migrate with them to a new TOPS version through such a smooth process. It has been a great team effort. Thank you to all,” commented Norbert Klettner, Managing Director of the RBS EMEA Office.

In addition, by improving automation and expediting planning processes, the system allows terminal planners to adapt swiftly to changing circumstances and offers greater flexibility to clients such as MSC.

With its increased automation, the new TOPS Expert accelerates processes and enhances adaptability, ensuring more efficient planning in dynamic scenarios. This successful migration was the culmination of an eight-month project, from initial kickoff to go-live, showcasing a strong collaborative effort and the terminal team’s exemplary ownership of the TOS.

Far from marking an endpoint, this migration opens new doors for integrating additional modules and features in the future. TOPS Expert is designed to integrate seamlessly with RBS’s cutting-edge TOPX Intelligent Engine, offering further enhancements in scheduling, dispatch, and operational execution.

Furthermore, the adoption of TOPS Expert reflects RBS’s dedication to delivering innovative solutions that enable terminals to optimize operations, elevate service quality, and maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving global market.
