Klaipėda Port to invest €775 million in growth and sustainability

Klaipėda Port Authority will invest €775 million over the next four years. The goal is to increase capacity, improve infrastructure, and boost sustainability. Last year, the port handled 39 million tonnes of cargo, exceeding forecasts. Cargo volumes are expected to grow 2–3% annually.

The largest project is the southern port development. Nearly €600 million will go to this project. Construction of the southern gates will start in mid-2026. Full completion is expected by 2028. Including future investors, the total project value will exceed €1 billion.

Other projects include a new cruise ship terminal, wind turbine assembly and storage facilities, and upgrades to the Jurbarkas river port. The port will invest €40 million in quay reconstruction, channel deepening, and security improvements.

Klaipėda Port will expand sustainability efforts. Green hydrogen production will begin this year. Ferries will use shore power to cut emissions. The port fleet will be renewed. Environmental monitoring will increase. A total of €21 million is dedicated to sustainability initiatives.

CEO Algis Latakas said, “We are investing to ensure sustainable growth. The southern port project will secure Klaipėda Port’s capacity, services, and green initiatives for the future.”
