KEZAD Group and Green Metal Industries partner for US$100 million steel recycling facility

KEZAD Group, the major operator of integrated and purpose-built economic zones in Abu Dhabi, has partnered with UAE-based Green Metal Industries to establish a state-of-the-art special steel recycling and production facility within KEZAD. This agreement involves a substantial investment of US$100 million.

The facility will employ advanced recycling technologies, including a melt shop, refining facilities (AOD/VOD/VD), multi-product continuous casting, and a rolling mill. These technologies will enable the conversion of metal scrap into high-quality products suitable for various industrial applications, notably construction and infrastructure projects.

“We are pleased to welcome Green Metal Industries to the KEZAD ecosystem. The company’s innovative approach to recycling metal is in line with our aims of creating a sustainable industrial ecosystem within KEZAD in line with the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy,” stated Mohamed Al Khader Al Ahmed, CEO of Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi – KEZAD Group.

Occupying an area of 116,000 square meters in the KEZAD Industrial Area (KEZAD al Ma’mourah), the plant will primarily utilize locally sourced raw materials, contributing to Abu Dhabi’s economic growth and serving as a hub for sustainable development and innovation within the construction industry across the GCC and beyond.

“We are excited to embark on this journey with the establishment of our first production site in KEZAD. Our investment reaffirms our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Green Metal Industries is committed to working closely with local stakeholders, government agencies, and the community to ensure the successful implementation of the project,” added Mohammed M Noor, CEO of Green Metal Industries.

Construction of the plant is already underway, with commercial production slated to commence in the first quarter of 2025. This initiative is anticipated to create job opportunities, spur economic growth, and encourage innovation within the region.

Furthermore, utilizing advanced recycling technologies for scrap metal, the plant will play a pivotal role in minimizing carbon emissions, thereby making a positive impact on both the local community and the global sustainability endeavour.
