
July Container Traffic Surges
The Port of Kawasaki handled 7,358 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in July, marking a 20.9% year-on-year increase, according to the Kawasaki City Government’s Port and Harbor Bureau, as Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA) reported. Total throughput, including domestic containers, reached 9,171 TEUs, up 23.3%.
Exports Lead the Growth
Exports totaled 3,744 TEUs, up 37.6%, including:

798 TEUs loaded, up 7.4%

2,946 TEUs empty, up 48.9%
Imports reached 3,614 TEUs, up 7.4%, comprised of:

3,599 TEUs loaded, up 7.2%

9 TEUs empty
Domestic containers accounted for 1,813 TEUs, up 34%.
Year-to-Date Performance
In the first seven months of 2025, Kawasaki handled:

50,188 TEUs of foreign-trade containers, up 1.8%

65,102 TEUs total, including domestic containers, up 6.7%
Exports rose 4.8% to 24,103 TEUs, with 4,544 TEUs loaded (down 9.3%) and 19,559 TEUs empty (up 8.7%).
Imports totaled 26,085 TEUs, slightly down 0.9%, including 25,631 TEUs loaded (down 1.4%) and 454 TEUs empty (up 38%).
Domestic container traffic reached 14,914 TEUs, up 27.7%.
