Kalmar to provide Ultraport with six medium forklifts

The Finnish manufacturer Kalmar will supply the Chilean port operator Ultraport with six medium forklift trucks for the optimisation of operations at Terminal Pacifico Sur (TPS).

The G-generation forklifts which are equipped with a selection of safety features will be used to handle steel products at the terminal and will be fitted with a specialised coil ram for handling steel coils, according to a statement.

“The additional safety features that the medium forklifts include will help the customers to ensure safe operations when handling demanding loads such as steel coils,” noted sales representative of Kalmar, Martin dos Santos.

In addition, the machines will feature the Kalmar Reverse Warning System, which combines camera and ultrasound detection technologies, providing drivers with full visibility when reversing.

The order was booked in the second quarter order intake of Cargotec, the parent company of Kalmar, with the delivery of the equipment being anticipated until the last quarter of 2021.

The Ultraport equipment fleet at TPS already includes Kalmar reachstackers, empty container handlers and terminal tractors.

Deputy Maintenance Manager of Ultraport, Cristian Rivadeneira commented, “We have been very satisfied with the quality, reliability and safety of the Kalmar equipment in our fleet, and have received excellent support from the local Kalmar team in Chile over the years.”
