Kalmar to enhance Maputo port operations with new machines

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has secured an order from Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) in Mozambique for 14 T2i terminal tractors and three forklift trucks, including two heavy models and one medium model.

The order was booked in Cargotec’s Q4 order intake and the machines are scheduled to be delivered until the end of the second quarter of 2023.

MPDC, a joint venture between the Mozambican Railway Company and Portus Indico, was first awarded the concession to run Porto de Maputo in 2003.

Also, the company acts as the port authority with responsibility for maritime operations, piloting, stevedoring, and terminal and warehouse operations as well as port planning and development.

Elísio Langa, maintenance manager of MPDC, commented, “We have been operating Kalmar machines since 2008 and have always found them to be reliable, economical and easy to maintain.”

Byron Meugens, sales manager of Southern Africa Kalmar, stated, “Kalmar and MPDC have a long shared history and we are very pleased to continue our collaboration through this latest order. Our machines meet MPDC’s exact requirements, particularly in terms of chassis strength and fuel efficiency, and will play a vital role in helping them to achieve their daily operational targets and long-term business goals.”
