Kalmar launches range of eco-efficient equipment

The Finnish port equipment company, Kalmar has announced the launch of eco-efficient solutions, with three new 100% electrically powered machines, the Electric Reachstacker, the Electric Heavy Forklift and the Ottawa Electric Terminal Tractor, as well as a range of autonomous mobile machines, named Robotic Portfolio.

Firstly, the Electric Reachstacker range comprises eight models, six toplift and two combi, with lifting capacities up to 45 tons and stacking up to 6 high and 4 rows deep.

All of these models are powered by lithium-ion batteries and have Bosch Rexroth drivelines, with four battery capacities available to choose from.

In addition, the Kalmar Electric Heavy Forklift truck range features seven lithium-ion powered models all with drivelines from the engineering company Bosch Rexroth, with lifting capacities ranging from 18 to 33 tons.

Moreover, the Kalmar Ottawa T2E+ Electric Terminal Tractor range, which is now available globally, includes five lithium-ion battery powered models, three for logistics applications and two for container terminal applications, with a gross combined weight ranging from 37 to 90 tons and two battery capacities to choose from, 152 or 182 kWh.

According to Kalmar, all the new electrically powered solutions include direct current (DC) fast-charge capability, which means that operators can charge during shift breaks, while, a built-in thermal management system ensures that batteries will remain within their optimal temperature range, enabling the machines to operate in a wide range of climates.

“We have a strong track record in bringing to market solutions that help our customers to reduce the environmental impact of their operations,” stated Michel van Roozendaal, President of Kalmar Mobile Solutions.

Furthermore, the Kalmar Robotic Portfolio, which will consist of the Kalmar RoboTractor, RoboLifter, RoboStacker and RoboHandler, is designed to improve safety and eco-efficiency “without compromising productivity.”

Meanwhile, prototypes are currently being tested at different sites around the world.

“With the introduction of the new portfolio, Kalmar is enhancing its already extensive automation offering, with autonomous, self-driven solutions that will be capable of operating in mixed-traffic environments in the future,” noted Kalmar.

All the equipment in the Kalmar Robotic Portfolio is projected to be built on a standardised platform, meaning that it will be simple and cost-effective to deploy with the help of cloud technologies and that it is fully compatible with Kalmar automation solutions.

“With this new portfolio we are laying the foundations for a future driven by fully autonomous, unmanned material handling with zero accidents, zero emissions and maximum productivity,” commented Lasse Eriksson, vice president of the Technology sector at Kalmar.
