Kalmar has partnered with Africa Global Logistics (AGL) to refurbish two ship-to-shore cranes at AGL’s container terminal in Côte d’Ivoire’s Port of Abidjan.
Booked in Kalmar’s Q4 2024 order intake, the job, part of Kalmar’s Modernisation Services portfolio, was completed in Q1 2025.
A subsidiary of MSC, AGL employs more than 20,000 staff across 50 countries and operates 17 container terminals, seven RoRo/ConRo facilities and an inland port. Its fleet already includes Kalmar reachstackers and forklifts, and the two companies have previously collaborated on crane upgrades in Congo and Benin.
The Abidjan scope covered replacement of the cranes’ forestays, pivot-point bearings, trolley and short rails, as well as new trolley and guide wheels.
AGL deputy technical director Kehinde Salami said Kalmar was the natural choice, citing the firm’s history of on-time, high-quality work that keeps the STS cranes running safely and reliably.
Kalmar project manager Peter Bos added that, alongside the hardware overhaul, his team delivered tailored maintenance training to ensure the cranes remain in peak condition well into the future.
