Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, through its Singapore-based subsidiary K Line Pte Ltd (KLPL), has confirmed that its dry bulk carrier DEVON BAY (IMO: 9622849) is the subject of an ongoing search and rescue operation following a distress call issued on the night of 22 January 2026.
The vessel was en route from Zamboanga in the Philippines to Yangjiang, China when the incident occurred. Search and rescue operations for four remaining crew members are continuing under the close coordination of the relevant maritime authorities.
To date, 15 crew members have been successfully rescued. Two crew members have sadly lost their lives, and the company has expressed its deepest condolences to their families and loved ones.
KLPL said it is grateful for the assistance provided by the China Coast Guard, the Philippine Coast Guard, rescue coordination centres, and all supporting vessels and crews, including ships from the group’s fleet that responded to the emergency.
The rescued crew members, together with the deceased, have been handed over to the Philippine Coast Guard, and arrangements are being made to support the survivors’ return home. The company is working closely with the authorities and the vessel’s ship manager to ensure appropriate care and support for the crew and to facilitate reunification with their families.
KLPL requested that the privacy of the crew members and their families be respected and said further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
