JNPT sets another container throughput record

State-owned Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has achieved a new container throughput record of approximately 5.11 million TEUs in calendar year 2019, representing a 1.2% increase over the 5.05 million TEUs registered in 2018.

Among the five container terminals in Jawaharlal Nehru Port, four are run by private entities and the port trust itself owns Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) which handled 0.77 million TEUs in 2019.

Gateway Terminals India (GTI), the facility operated by a joint venture between APM Terminals Management and India’s CONCOR, took a lead again, handling 2 million TEUs during the year. Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal (NSIGT), run by DP World, is the second largest terminal, processing 0.99 million TEUs followed by Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT), run by Singapore’s PSA International with throughput of 0.82 million TEUs, while the throughput of Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) also run by DP world was 0.52 million TEUs.
