JGC and K Line participate in CCS study in Malaysia

Japan Petroleum Exploration (JAPEX) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with JGC CORPORATION (JGC) and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K LINE) for a joint study on Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) in Malaysia (hereinafter the “Joint Study”).

It should be noted that JAPEX had earlier signed another MOU with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), an energy and solutions partner.

In more detail, in the Joint Study, investigations of suitable CO2 storage sites in Malaysia and their technical evaluations are being carried out with the aim of being completed in 20 months.

Through the above, consideration of CO2 capture and transport methods from the PETRONAS LNG Complex located in Bintulu, Sarawak and outside Malaysia will be undertaken as a future possibility.

To advance the conceptual studies conducted by PETRONAS and JAPEX, the Joint Study welcomes JGC and K LINE.

The four partners will work together to assess CO2 storage technologies, such as calculating storage capacity and optimal storage methods, optimal capture, and transport options, including estimating emissions and capture volumes, and monitoring the method of CO2 storage underground. The study of economic evaluation of feasible business plans and the research of the applicable regulations will be done in the Joint Study.
