Israel strikes Houthi targets at Hodeidah port

On Monday, the Israeli military launched strikes on Houthi-controlled targets in Yemen’s strategic Hodeidah port, escalating its campaign against the Iran-backed group, according to Al-Arabiyya.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the military was forcefully countering any attempt to restore the terror infrastructure previously attacked. He added that the Houthis would pay a heavy price for launching missiles toward the State of Israel.

The Israeli Defense Forces stated that the port had been used to facilitate weapons transfers from Iran to the Houthis, which were then deployed in attacks on Israel and its allies.

Houthi-run Al Masirah TV confirmed that the port was under attack but provided no further details. A Houthi security official told AFP, under condition of anonymity, that the strikes destroyed a dock that had been rebuilt following earlier bombings.

Hodeidah port, vital to Yemen’s trade and humanitarian supply routes, has remained a focal point of the conflict due to its strategic importance and Houthi control.

Earlier in July, the Houthis claimed responsibility for an attack on the Greek-owned vessel Eternity C, which maritime authorities say resulted in the deaths of four crew members out of 25 aboard.

In May, the United States announced a surprise agreement with the Houthis, temporarily halting its bombing campaign in exchange for a reduction in Red Sea shipping attacks. However, the Houthis later clarified that the deal did not extend to Israeli-linked targets.
