Indian Register of Shipping partners with SeaTech for green tug design and sustainability initiatives

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SeaTech Solutions International, a maritime engineering and design company based in Singapore.

The agreement underscores a comprehensive global effort to promote sustainable maritime practices, specifically focusing on the design and classification of next-generation green tugs and harbor crafts for worldwide use.

SeaTech will lead the efforts in designing and engineering environmentally friendly tugs and harbor crafts, which will incorporate cutting-edge sustainable technologies to meet global sustainability and efficiency standards. These designs will undergo a review and preliminary approval by the IRS to cater to both local and international maritime needs.

IRS will also perform engineering reviews to ensure design compliance with its own rules and other relevant international regulations.

Additionally, the MoU facilitates joint training initiatives between IRS and SeaTech to enhance maritime skills and knowledge. IRS will also provide specialized plan approval training to SeaTech engineers, further enhancing their technical abilities.

Moreover, the agreement sets a framework for collaborative research and industry projects focused on tackling significant challenges like decarbonization, alternative fuels, and improving vessel efficiency.

P K Mishra, Managing Director of IRS, said the combined expertise of SeaTech in maritime design and IRS’ technical diligence is crucial for steering the future of eco-friendly maritime operations globally.
