Imabari Shipbuilding has delivered UNDINE HIGHWAY, a 7,000-unit LNG-fueled car carrier, from its Marugame Works.
The vessel is designed to transport LNG-powered vehicles and features advanced environmental and operational technologies.
Reduced Emissions
Compared with conventional heavy fuel oil vessels, UNDINE HIGHWAY cuts CO₂ emissions by 25–30%. It almost completely eliminates SOx emissions. NOx emissions fall by 80–90% through the use of an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system.
Efficient LNG Fuel Management
The vessel utilizes boil-off gas (BOG) generated from the LNG fuel tank. It uses the gas to power generators and boilers, further improving environmental performance.
Optimized Cargo Handling
A bulkhead-free hold and wider, linear ramps improve visibility and vehicle flow. This design enhances safety and increases loading efficiency.
Flexible Deck Configuration
The ship is equipped with liftable decks that allow height adjustment. This enables the transport of passenger cars as well as tall cargo such as trucks and trailers.
