On 7 August 2025, Imabari Shipbuilding delivered the 209,000 DWT LNG-fueled bulk carrier SG DAWN at its Saijo Shipyard. The Cape-size vessel, built under Common Structural Regulations (CSR BC&OT), can operate on both fuel oil and LNG. LNG fuel tanks are installed on the stern upper deck, maintaining the same cargo volume as heavy oil carriers and ensuring high transport efficiency.
Each cargo hold is fitted with top-side and hopper tanks, designed to accommodate high-density cargoes such as iron ore (3.0 t/m³).
When running on fuel oil, the ship meets Phase 3 EEDI requirements, exceeding the standard by over 30%. Switching to LNG can cut CO₂ emissions by 20–30% and virtually eliminate SOx emissions. The vessel is equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to meet Tier III NOx limits. Dual-fuel generators and boilers enable the use of Boil-Off Gas (BOG) without waste.
Energy-saving features include improved propeller design with energy-saving attachments and twisted rudders, a hydrodynamic bow, streamlined accommodation block to reduce wind resistance, and low-friction hull coatings.
