Icy winters tie up ships in Europe

Harsh winter conditions have sent congestion levels in European ports to a post-Covid-19 high, holding up 10% of the container shipping fleet.

Asia-bound ships departing Europe now are expected to arrive only at month’s end.

Maersk Line released an advisory saying a new wave of rough weather is expected on 4 February, impacting transits and ship movements in the western part of the Mediterranean. This would cause a chain reaction in north European ports.
