ICTSI’s South Luzon Container Terminal taking shape

South Luzon Container Terminal is set to become one of the country’s biggest container hubs for Calabarzon.

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) is advancing the South Luzon Container Terminal (SLCT) in Bauan, Batangas. Commercial operations are targeted for 2028.

The USD 800 million project will roll out in phases over two years. When complete, SLCT will become one of the Philippines’ largest container gateways. It will add up to 2 million TEUs annually across ICTSI’s network.

SLCT is designed to improve connectivity in Southern Luzon. By situating capacity closer to manufacturing and export hubs, the terminal will reduce logistics steps, shorten lead times, and expand options for shippers.

The site, currently Bauan International Port, mainly serves roll-on/roll-off cargo. It is being converted into a modern container terminal. SLCT will handle ultra-large container vessels with a controlling depth of up to 18 meters.

Phase 1 covers marine works and a 425-meter quay with super post-Panamax cranes. Construction runs from May to September 2027. Equipment delivery and installation follow in August.

Phase 1 will provide an initial capacity of 800,000 TEUs. The terminal will feature an 11-hectare yard, four remote-operated quay cranes, four RMG lanes with eight RMGs, ten shuttle carriers, and dedicated operations and engineering facilities. Power systems will ensure reliable performance.

SLCT sits nine kilometers from Batangas City and connects to major roads and planned expressways. It will serve as a key gateway for Calabarzon’s manufacturing and export base.

In August 2025, the Department of Transportation and Philippine Ports Authority inspected the site. They confirmed SLCT aligns with the Build Better More program, supporting port expansion and economic growth.
