International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI)-operated Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT) continues to strengthen its operational capacity with the recent acquisition of four new hybrid and automated rubber-tired gantries (RTGs).
The new machines will expand the terminal’s RTG fleet to eight units. After commissioning, the RTGs are expected to further improve yard productivity.
“With these additional cranes, MGT will improve vessel and truck turnaround times, leading to faster services and enhanced safety standards. This modern equipment also reduces the risk of technical failures by distributing the workload more effectively, guaranteeing more reliable and continuous operation,” said Timothee Jeannin, MGT general manager.
To further consolidate its position as a key trade gateway for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, MGT has also initiated civil works to improve efficiency and enhance customer experience. These include the construction of a 2.65-kilometer road linking the Port of Matadi to key transport routes, the expansion of the storage yard to accommodate growing cargo volumes, and the extension of parking facilities.
These infrastructure upgrades are expected to streamline cargo movement, prevent congestion, and support MGT’s long-term growth, according to ICTSI’s announcement.
