ICTSI Australian terminal adds six Kalmar’s automated box carriers

Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) has taken delivery of six new automated container carriers (ACC) from Kalmar.

The new machines were unloaded at the Port of Melbourne from the built-in-2014 Eemslift Dafne, expanding VICT’s fleet to a total of 17 units.

The fleet expansion is expected to further enhance container movement between automated ship-to-shore cranes on the terminal’s quayside and auto stacking cranes on the land side.

“The ACCs will enable VICT to meet the growing volumes being driven across the Port of Melbourne, whilst also providing necessary equipment availability time to support engineering maintenance activities,” commented Jon Wheeler, VICT chief operating officer.

The new machines are part of the ICTSI terminal’s investment of US$100.4 million (AUD139 million) into the facility of Webb Dock and the Victorian economy over the next two years.

This will complement the Port of Melbourne’s investment to remove the “knuckle” and add another 71 meters of quay line to berth 4 of Webb Dock East, according to a statement.
