Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT) has ordered an advanced Automated Horizontal Transport (AHT) System from Konecranes to modernize and electrify container operations at its Euromax terminal.
The order includes 42 new lithium-ion Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and fast-charging stations, all integrated into a Battery Management System for optimal energy performance and long-term reliability. This marks a major step forward from the 96 diesel-electric Konecranes Gottwald AGVs delivered in 2005, which have been in reliable operation for nearly 20 years.
Designed for seamless, fully automated container handling, the new electric AGVs will operate alongside the current diesel fleet. Konecranes’ TEAMS Equipment Control System will manage routing and coordination with other terminal equipment, including Ship-to-Shore cranes and Automated Stacking Cranes. A built-in diagnostic system monitors equipment health down to individual components.
“This deal underlines two decades of operational success at ECT Euromax, we’re ready to support ECT’s electrification and modernization goals for the next 20 years,” said Ralf Konnerth, Director of Automated Horizontal Transport at Konecranes.
