Hupac, an intermodal rail operator headquartered in Switzerland, is bolstering its rail network connecting Zeebrugge, Belgium with northern Italy.
Introducing a fresh train service to Piacenza, the Hupac is also increasing the frequency of services to Italy’s Busto Arsizio and Novara. Additionally, departure points for trains headed to Antwerp will now be relocated to Lauterbourg, France.
Furthermore, Hupac aims to expand its array of intermodal services with increased flexibility, reliability, and stability. The new train service will commence from the CLdN terminal in Zeebrugge, travelling to Piacenza in northern Italy through Switzerland, with a frequency of twice per week.
In addition, Hupac is boosting the frequency of two established routes. The train service to Busto Arsizio, departing from the P&O terminal in Zeebrugge, now operates six round trips weekly, instead of five. Similarly, the train departing from the CLdN terminal in Zeebrugge bound for Novara now runs ten times per week, an increase from nine.
Italian exporters can conveniently access the United Kingdom for their exports, facilitated by the synchronization of rail connections in Zeebrugge with regular shortsea connections to the United Kingdom, said the statement.
Beginning now, trains destined for Antwerp will initiate departures from Lauterbourg, France, positioned along the Rhine River. The inception of this service involved collaboration between Bolloré Logistics, Haeger & Schmidt, and the Lauterbourg Rhine Terminal (LRT). Throughout the year, this new train route is anticipated to establish itself as a regular connection for both imports and exports.
Operational since 2018, the Lauterbourg Rhine Terminal is accessible by road, rail, and water. Presently, the terminal boasts a storage capacity of 80,000 TEU annually, with the potential to double this figure in the future.
