HPC completes profitability report on Cologne North intermodal terminal

Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln (HGK) contracted last year Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC), a logistics consultant in the ports and logistics industry, to undertake a profitability analysis – based on a tender – for the Cologne North intermodal traffic train terminal.

The research was meant to be conducted from the perspectives of both investors and operators and to serve as the foundation for estimating the lease amount to be paid to a future investor.

“In addition to key operational indicators, the placement criteria were mainly defined by qualitative, macroeconomic sustainability criteria for the northern Cologne region, which were set during the processing stage,” said Norbert Di Raimondo, leader of the placement project at HGK.

The analysis was critical to the now-completed transfer of terminal operations to HUPAC SA. By successfully completing the second phase of construction at the new bimodal intermodal terminal, Cologne North, HGK is making a substantial contribution to the city of Cologne’s infrastructure supply of public services as a public investor. The terminal can handle up to 130,000 TEU.

“The analysis and assessment of intermodal infrastructure and its integration into existing supply chains over the entire life cycle of cargo handling facilities and against the background of a dynamic market development is one of the core competencies of our consultancy services,” stated Hartmut Beyer, authorised signatory at HPC and expert on market development of intermodal transport.
