
In a surprise move that follows months of tense negotiations, the US President Donald Trump announced a new trade agreement with Indonesia that will impose a 19% tariff on Indonesian exports to the United States a reduction from the 32% he had previously threatened.
Though hailed by Jakarta as the result of an extraordinary struggle, the deal carries complex implications for Indonesia’s sprawling maritime sector, one of the economic arteries of Southeast Asia.
