HMM has alerted customers to possible disruptions to its maritime services as tensions and security risks escalate in the Middle East, particularly around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
In an advisory to clients and partners, the company expressed appreciation for the continued trust and cooperation of its customers while outlining the challenges posed by the current regional security situation.
According to HMM, the highly volatile maritime security environment in and around the Strait of Hormuz is already affecting global supply chains. The company noted that regional instability is creating elevated risks for commercial shipping operations, which may require adjustments to normal operational practices.
These circumstances could impact shipping schedules, service routes and overall transit times. As a result, customers may experience delays, changes to vessel itineraries or potential cost increases linked to operational adjustments.
“HMM would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your unwavering support and trust,” said HMM in the advisory. The company added that any operational changes are aimed at safeguarding vessels, crew members and customer cargo amid the evolving security situation.
HMM stated that it is closely monitoring developments in the region and remains in communication with relevant authorities to assess risks and determine appropriate response measures.
To reduce potential disruption, the company is preparing contingency plans and evaluating alternative operational solutions. HMM said it will continue to update customers as soon as additional details become available, though it warned that it cannot guarantee specific transit times or the continuity of particular service routes during the current period of uncertainty.
The shipping line also clarified that any actions taken in response to the situation will remain subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable HMM bill of lading. In cases where differences arise between the advisory and the bill of lading, the contractual terms outlined in the bill of lading will prevail, including provisions covering operational liberties, limitations and exclusions of liability.
