HMM Promise enters Busan Port

The HMM Promise, 11,000 TEU container vessel, called at Busan Port and held a launching ceremony.

The HMM Promise is one of the two units of 11,000 TEU vessels of Hyundai Merchant Marine q-and is the world’s first commercially operating mega container vessel of more than 11,000 TEUs equipped with a large scrubber system.

The move was made to comply with global environment protection standards of IMO that will go into effect in 2020 and it enables the vessel to reduce fuel costs.

The HMM PROMISE will cover shipping to the eastern coast of South America, while the HMM BLESSING, a twin vessel delivered from the same dockyard, will be launched on the 9th in Busan to cover shipping to the western coast of South America.

BPA President WOO said “The HMM Promise is the first 10,000 TEU class vessel that covers South America. We anticipate to see cargo volume increase between Busan Port q-and South America.”
