HHLA and HyperloopTT to unveal high-speed cargo and freight system

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT) and Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) will present a virtual reality demonstrator of their HyperPort system at the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress in October.

The goal of the new high-speed container transportation initiative is to increase the capacity and efficiency of container terminals while reducing the environmental footprint and congestion at ports worldwide.

The HyperPort system, which was developed based on current industry standards, is a plug-and-play solution for port operators. It can move up to 2,800 containers a day in a reliable, efficient, safe way and in a closed operating environment.

In particular, the concept makes it possible to transport boxes at high speed over hundreds of kilometres, preventing port congestion and eliminating the environmental footprint.

Andres De Leon, CEO of the US research and development company HyperloopTT, said, “Our work with world-leading firms to move this technology forward is a significant revenue opportunity for port operators all around the world.”

The individual HyperPort™ transport capsules provide room for two 20-foot or one 40- or 45-foot standard or high cube container.

According to a statement, the initiative for their construction was taken two and a half years ago, when the companies came into an agreement.

The system capsules were designed by the Spanish industrial design company Mormedi, while the technology was developed in cooperation with the Spanish engineering firm CT Ingenieros.

“At HHLA, we know that to prepare for the future you must innovate,” pointed out Gerlinde John, HHLA’s Project Manager HyperPort™.
